In Memory of Greg Fawcett
1948-2024
Greg was raised in Winthrop, IA, graduating from East Buchanan Community High School in 1966. Greg attended Iowa State University for 2 years before following in his grandfather’s footsteps to become a funeral director. In 1969, he graduated from the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in Milwaukee, WI. He returned to the family businesses in Winthrop & Lamont, joining his parents Lester “Bud” Charles and Kathryn Jean (Freeman) Fawcett, working at Fawcett Funeral Homes and Furniture Store. He married Connie Marie Loughren on June 26, 1971, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti, IA. They were blessed with four children: Lori, Patricia, Janet, & Johnathan. In 2020 Greg sold the Fawcett Funeral Home to Paul Schmitz and continued working with the Jamison-Schmitz & Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Homes until his death in 2024. He was a member of the buffalo Creek Country Club, elected member of the E.B. Telephone Co-op Board of Directors, and a 55-year member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association. Greg enjoyed going for drives, visiting his cabin in Quasky, feeding the birds, observing wildlife, hunting, fishing, and playing cards.
